Bwthyn Llŷs Twrog is a self catering holiday cottage located on the foothills of Snowdonia about 7 miles (11 km) from Caernarfon in North Wales. The cottage is at an elevation of 932 feet (284 metres) above sea level and offers panoramic views over Caernarfon Bay, the Menai Straits, Anglesey, Llanddwyn Island and Holy Island. From mid April to early September the sunsets can be spectacular. Sometimes in the weeks near the summer solstice the tops of the Mountains of Mourne in Northern Ireland can be seen just after sunset. At any time of year low levels of light pollution mean wonderful opportunities on clear nights to see the stars.
The cottage is located between the villages of Carmel and Fron in a peaceful rural location with spectacular views to Anglesey, the Irish Sea and inland mountains. The surrounding countryside offers excellent opportunities for walking or mountain biking and not too far away there are some abandoned slate quarries that provide a fascinating insight into the history of North Wales. It is a perfect location from which to explore the spectacular scenery of North Wales and is a well positioned for the many visitor attractions in the area including historic castles, beaches, narrow gauge railways, adrenaline fuelled activities and attractions designed for children of all ages.
Llŷs Twrog is a house built in 1880 as the home of the manager responsible for a group of slate quarries. In 2009/10 the stone barn adjacent to the house was converted into Bwthyn Llŷs Twrog holiday cottage; ‘Bwthyn’ being Welsh for ‘Cottage’. Care was taken to retain as many features of the original barn as possible, including the Victorian roof beams.
Bwthyn Llŷs Twrog is a no smoking property and we regret that we cannot accept pets. The cottage is normally let by the week with a Saturday changeover, but short breaks of 2 nights or more may be available.
